wow, huge question. I'm more of an artist than a scholar, but as far as i've learnt , they are quite seperate mythological figures with distinct stories of their own. Merlin, or Myrddin in the original Welsh is pretty definitly a god of ancient Britain and the same could be said for Taliesin, and they both have an Arthurian connection, but their stories are seperate enough to supose that they have distinct identities. Taliesin might actually be more closely related to Gwyn ap Nudd, through his earliest name 'Gwion Bach'.
